"Sort of. I guess you kinda have to have your own hero costume," he said, looking over at Tails. "You look pretty cool though."

He really should find a mask or something to wear, he noted. It'd mean fewer heart attacks when fighting villains over whether or not his cover had been blown.

"Thanks." Tails smiled, able to understand that awkward feeling of realizing you were on your own for a costume. "Well, you could ask for suggestions and put something together later," he suggested. "If you need them."

[omnitrixter]

"Yeah. I just need to sit down and figure it out," Ben said with a grin. "Usually, I fight a bad guy, think 'I should get a costume', forget about it, and then fight another bad guy. Endless loop."

"So, you have a lot of experience fighting crime already? That's cool."

He couldn't say the same, so it was pretty impressive.

The little fox was going to be no good for his ego. Ben could already see it.

"Well, not a whole lot. I mean, I only started a couple of weeks ago," Ben admitted, a little embarrassed. "Plus it's skipping the whole 'homework' step in there."

It was an unintentional side effect of being easy to impress a little.

Homework huh? "I haven't hit a point where I have trouble keeping up with homework yet," Tails said, scratching the back of his head. "But right now I'm kind of just support."

[omnitrixter]

"I'd probably do better if I didn't keep procrastinating on homework," Ben admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. "You don't look like the kind of guy to have that problem."

[usedrapidspin]

"Not really. I actually kind of like to study," Tails responded, rubbing his nose sheepishly. Nerd alert? Definitely.

"That makes one of us." Ben patted the little guy on the head.

Ben was a nerd but school was not where his nerdiness lied.

"So you're gonna get into heroing, too?"

Tails kind of needed to keep his academics up considering his field of expertise. He nodded. "That's the plan. But I'm not really fully confident yet."

[omnitrixter]

"Well, what is it you do?" He looked over the costume. "I'm gonna guess gadget guy."

[usedrapidspin]

"Yeah. I'm an inventor, but I'm also a mechanic and know my way around planes." Not really one to brag, Tails wasn't really going to go into detail about just what he could make. not if he wasn't asked anyway.

"Aside from that and being a little faster than some people, I'm pretty normal." Except the obvious two tails.

"Sounds cool. What kind of stuff can you make?"

And how did one bring up that second tail? Ben would've thought it'd be a dead giveaway on Tails's alter ego.

"I've made a hoverboard, a plane, an arm cannon, my magic hand, and some defensive droids," Tails answered.

As for his tails...it was amazing what goggles and a bandana could do.

"A working hoverboard? Really? That is so awesome!"

Of all the things in that list, of course the hoverboard was the one he latched onto. Hoverboards were cool. Not the other stuff wasn't, but seriously. Hoverboards.

"Yeah." Not surprising. Hoverboards were fun to use, and Tails held his up for Ben to examine. "I call it the Yellow Tail"

Ben eagerly took the hoverboard, looking over it with great interest. "This has to be the coolest thing ever. How do you get it to fly?"

Prepare yourself for the start of a technical explanation, Ben. Tails isn't that good at simplifying technical stuff even though he does try. But he also takes the board and turns it over so Ben can see the part he's explaining. So hopefully he'll get the gist which is that it uses an air tank for everything.

Ben was able to follow along up until a point before everything flew over his head. However, he seized desperately upon the air tank.

"So it's kind of like air hockey only it's the puck shooting out air instead of the table?"

[usedrapidspin]

"You know, that's a pretty good way to think about it," Tails said. At least for someone who he could see had kind of gotten lost. "And the tank can be filled manually or by doing tricks, before the tanks empty."

[omnitrixter]

"As if you need a reason to do tricks on this thing," Ben said with a toothy grin. "How long do the tanks last?"

[usedrapidspin]

"Well no." Tails scratched the back of his head. "It depends on how often you accelerate. But usually a couple of miles at most."

[omnitrixter]

"How fast can it go?"

A few miles didn't seem like a long time if you were going fast.

Totally didn't just go race to check. >.>

"Well, I plan to keep working on it, but right now the top speed is about 250 miles per hour," Tails admitted. It was slower than he could fly, but more than double his best running speed at least though. "That's not a constant though and it usually stays closer to 120."

A few miles was sort of an understatement...provided the rider wasn't constantly expending the air on jumps and stuff. On a good day Tails could circle a race track without refueling if he didn't boost.

Ben whistled. "We should race sometime."

Maybe it'd help him get a better idea of how fast he was going as XLR8 or Jetray.
