The "gills" on the sides of his neck flared as they took in the scent of Tails approaching from above. Okay, he definitely needed to ask him flying once the watch timed out. Maybe it was because of Tail's hoverboard?

In any case, he picked up the pace. While this obstacle course was child's play for Wildmutt, Ben always felt a bit more aggressive in this form. It was like being himself and a wild animal at the same time. Having Tails flying above, his competitive streak went into overdrive and he dodged around one of the obstacles to try and beat the fox to the switch.

Well on the good side, Tails was content to stay put, because the race would've been over with no challenge if it had been one. He noticed that Ben had picked up speed though and planned to ask him about it after...even though it looked liked Ben just wanted to prove just how fast he could run the course.

Aw yeah. Totally acing this course. And there ahead of him was the button. Everything was going his--

Four descending tones came from the device around his neck, the symbol from his watch flashing red though Ben couldn't see that part. He was familiar enough with that sound to know what it meant.

He whined, realizing he was mid-leap as green light engulfed his form and returned him to normal.

"Oh maaaaaaaan!"

He had barely enough time to tuck into a ball as he slammed into the floor, rolling along for a few feet before his momentum gave out.

Groaning, he reached out to touch the switch.

Oh...ouch. Tails quickly flew down to hover just in front of Ben. That didn't look as painful as it probably would have been if Ben hadn't reacted so fast but-

"Are you alright?"

Ben gave another groan, changing his outstretched hand to a thumbs up. "Yeah. Never better. Ow."

He sat up painfully, reaching up to pop at his neck. "Good thing I'm getting used to crash landings. Ugh."

"Well at least you finished the course in your crash," Tails supplied helpfully. "Still, it would have been nice if the watch had waited a few seconds."

Without landing, he offered a hand up.

"Yippee," Ben stated, rolling the shoulder that had taken the brunt of the force. Yes, that was going to bruise up nicely later.

He then reached out for the offered hand, pausing as he saw how Tails was hovering there.

"Oh, dude! That's so cool!"

"What?" Looking confused for a moment, tails only blinked at him before realization dawned on him. "Oh! That. Thanks."

Grabbing ben's hand, he pulled him to his feet and then landed.

With Tails's help, Ben got back to his feet, grinning down at Tails as the fox landed.

"Kinda handy, huh? Like having your own personal helicopter."

"Yeah. It was worth landing." Tails smiled. It really made having two tails a good thing. "It's easier to use them for ground speed for long periods than flying though."

[omnitrixter]

"Ohhh, so that's what you meant by running real fast. Kinda wondered how you did it." He gave a grin. "No offense, but your legs are shorter than mine, dude."

Shrugging with a smile, Tails wasn't at all offended. "Yeah, but I'm shorter than most humans period and they can still get me around pretty fast by themselves."

"Look on the bright side: You can fly. We can't," Ben said. "That automatically makes you cooler."

"Yeah, but it's really no contest. Otherwise there'd really be no winners in the Omegafriends. Too many different heroes." Tails tucked his arms behind his back and rocked back on his heels.

"But anyway, I had an idea about the watch."

[omnitrixter]

"True." As someone who could turn into ten different heroes, he knew each cool power usually came with a huge disadvantage that it was better to have a bunch of different guys working together to cover each other's backs.

"Oh yeah? What'd you come up with?"

This was also something Tails knew, commonly working with a group of close friends before this.

"well, I was wondering if it might need to be re-calibrated. But also if it's completely random when it gives you an alien you didn't want or if there's any sort of pattern to it."

[omnitrixter]

"I don't know. Maybe?" He looked at the watch, the green part currently red. "And sometimes it gives me what I want. Or it'll be weird and give me something way more useful than what I originally planned. But for the most part, I think it just likes messing with me."

"Well if we can test it over a period of time then I'm pretty sure I can figure out what's wrong and fix it for you. It's unusable right now right?" he asked, guessing off the obvious trend of red usually meaning no-go.

[omnitrixter]

"Yeah. It's recharging the battery, I think. Have to wait to get the green again before I can transform," Ben explained. "If you can fix this thing, you'd make my life a whole lot easier."

"Then that will be one of my top priorities," Tails promised. "Helping a friend in need is important too."

[omnitrixter]

"Thanks, man. I mean, I can live with the random aliens, but it's the random time-outs that really freak me out. One of these days, someone's gonna catch me on camera."

"Yeah, and that could be big trouble for any hero for plenty of reasons. But you can count on me."

[omnitrixter]

"Thanks, Tails. You're the best."

Blushing? Maybe he was a little. But it was nice to be appreciated. "It's no problem. so, what do you wanna do while we wait?"

[omnitrixter]

"Probably should hold off on eating anything. I mean, transforming makes me hungry, especially after a battle, but if we're gonna keep at this, might be better to wait until we're done for the day." He put his hands behind his head. "I guess I could try doing the obstacle course as a human but it'd probably be embarrassing."
