"I don't see a problem with that. It's easy and explains that your power is ten." Scuffing his toe on the floor, Tails shrugged. "Only the Omegafriends so far."

"Yeah, but nobody except the Omegafriends know it. Everybody else knows me as XLR8 or Diamondhead or Big Chill or one of the other seven guys in the watch," Ben stated.

"Good point." Couldn't really argue with that, and that response gave the answer for the unasked question. "So how do you transform?"

"With this thing." Ben slid his left sleeve up to better shown his watch. "I pop up the dial, select the alien I want, and boom! Suddenly I'm one of ten aliens for five to fifteen minutes." He glared at the watch in annoyance. "It's kind of random that way."

"Sooo, it doesn't always do what you want it to timewise?"

Giving the watch a curious look, he stepped a little closer. It looked a lot like something from a toy store in a way, but not in that obviously cheap plastic toy way.

"Actually, it doesn't do what I want it to period. Most of the time I don't even get the alien I selected," Ben admitted. "I found it in some space pod, so I'm thinking maybe it got damaged in the crash...or it just hates me."

"Maybe I can take a look at it for you.' He genuinely wanted to help, but the idea of looking over alien technology was really enticing.

"Just be careful with it. This thing didn't come with a manual, and if you trigger a self-destruct mode, it doesn't come off. I kinda like having two hands, y'know?"

He held out his wrist for Tails's inspection.

"I'll be careful,' Tails promised, taking Ben's hand and turning it so he could see the gadget from every angle. He didn't press anything, but he did try to slip a finger under the "wristband" since Ben said it wasn't coming off.

"How did you get it on?"

Tails would find no way to slide his finger underneath the band. The watch had seemingly fused itself to Ben's skin.

"I reached out towards it, and it hopped up and latched on to my wrist." Ben rubbed the back of his neck. "I'd just wanted to look at it."

By touching it. Fiddling with things was a bad habit of his.

"Oh..." That was a pretty scary mental picture and the fact that it did appear to have become a part of Ben didn't help in the slightest. Made the idea of fiddling with it slightly less appealing. Was it alive?

"Does it activate when anyone else tries to pick an alien, or just you?"

"I dunno. I usually don't let people touch it. Transforming into a random alien would kinda blow my secret identity," Ben admitted.

"Point taken, but you should have someone you can trust with it in case something happens with it," Tails pointed out.

"Good point. I'm pretty sure this thing's already broken, but I don't want it to get worse."

He held out the watch to Tails. "You're good with machines, right?"

"Pretty good, and I'd be happy to help you get it to work properly if I can." Taking the wrist with the watch again after a moment, he went quiet. Then after just a moment of consideration, he nodded to himself.

"Hey, why don't we go somewhere where you can give me a demonstration? I'd like to see you use it before I try anything myself."

"Sure. No problem." He looked around at the base's surroundings. "...Know any good places that don't care if stuff gets broken?"

"I'm pretty sure there's a training room here. Let's go there." With so many superheroes it stood to reason. Turning he jogged off, catch the firstperson who didn't look busy so he could ask.

Ben followed after him, gawking at everything like a tourist. He'd been a huge fan of the Omegafriends since he was young, always wanting to be one but knowing that was likely impossible. He didn't have superpowers and he didn't have all sorts of nifty gadgets like Tails.

But now he did and he was here and he might become a hero for real now. Someone, pinch him.

There was a time when Tails had wanted to be a big hero, like his hero. But now that he was a little older he just wanted to do good by people. Be dependable. If he could still do that here then it was enough.

Finding the training room was easy enough and he led the way in. "It looks like we have the room to ourselves."

Well, Tails, if you could keep this dork in line, you'd certainly earn the "dependable" thing.

"Good. Because I'm never one hundred percent sure what this thing's going to give me."

He popped up the dial and started twisting it, going through different aliens. Hmm...nope...nope...nope...Grey Matter might be best. Definitely the least potentially-destructive.

"Ready?"

Well he could try.

It looked simple enough to operate at least."Ready!"

Ben slammed his hand down on the core, releasing an explosion of green light that shifted his shape into...

Wildmutt. Great. He had to demonstrate the watch, and it turned him into the one alien that couldn't talk. He growled in annoyance at the alien device. Stupid troll watch.

Well...that was...Tails hadn't known what he was expecting to see for an alien...but it wasn't that.

"So, um, did it do the one you wanted?" The growl suggested no, but he didn't know if it could talk.

Ben huffed in annoyance, turning his head blindly towards Tails. Well, at least he had that weird smell...sonar...thing so he could "see" to a certain extent. The lack of eyes wasn't useful at all.

He shook his head in response, pawing the ground.

"No huh..." Folding his arms and rubbing his chin, Tails walked slowly around him but kept a respectable distance. "Do we have to wait for it to wear off? And if yes, try to give me the best guess for number of minutes."

He had an idea to test, but couldn't like this.
