The voice was what caught her attention first, and as Gwen turned to see a strange blue alien standing on the rooftop practically next to her she couldn't help the slight blush that came to her cheeks at his words. She'd never been very comfortable with the slight fame that she'd garnered as Lucky Girl.

"I just got back in town a few days ago." She hadn't seen an alien like this before. It looked almost like a giant blue moth. It was actually very pretty. "Are you a local?"

"Something like that," he rasped out as the symbol on his chest started flashing red with those accompanying four descending tones.

In a flash of green, Ben stood in front of Lucky Girl, also in costume though she might find the big grin familiar.

He held out the left hand bearing the watch for a handshake, not even thinking about how he'd started to use his left hand more and more often ever since getting the alien device.

"Just that wasn't how I usually look," he said.

Ok, so the flash of green was pretty impressive. Whatever alien tech he's using has got to be pretty top notch She shakes his hand and notes the watch (really more like a wrist brace) on his arm. Forget the grin and the voice, she knows that symbol. Grandpa Max had a communications devise that looked just like it.

"You're a Plumber?" It's a shock because the guy looks pretty young; almost her age. She didn't think they would let someone her age out in the field.

"Uh...Okay. Never had anybody call me that before," Ben said, scratching the back of his head. "Didn't know that plumbers could turn into aliens to fix toilets. 'Course the watch wouldn't even be good about tha--Ow!"

The watch's face rippled with energy, flashing green and beeping with annoyance. It seemed that Ben had rubbed off on the machine. Not necessarily a good thing.

Right, so not a Plumber. Her brows raise behind her mask and she frowns at his arm. "What is that thing anyway?" Judging from the Plumber badge emblem it's probably alien tech, likely Plumber tech to be exact, but why would this kid have it if he didn't even know what the Plumbers were? It didn't make sense.

"Some kind of alien watch. It lets me turn into a whole bunch of different aliens. Like Big Chill, the guy I was before," Ben explained, grinning. He shrugs. "It's pretty cool even if the watch likes to be a pain."

"An alien watch." She repeats it in a monotone tone because it's clear that Ben has no idea what it is or who made it. That worries her. He's using some kind of alien technology without knowing what it's doing to his body. What if it's hurting him? "Where did you get it?" She's praying he doesn't say he found it in a ditch somewhere and decided to keep it.

"It kinda found me," he said, walking over closer to lean against the low wall at the edge of the roof. "I thought the pod it was in was a shooting star until it suddenly shot towards me. One second I'm freaking out because this weird watch won't come off my wrist, the next I turn into this guy that's on fire but I'm not burning."

He looked over at her. "What about you? How'd you get your powers?"

Ok, well at least she can't fault the kid for that. She's surprised that the Plumbers didn't interfere though. The kid seems harmless, maybe just another superhero, so she sits on the ledge, her foot scraping across the ground. "They manifested when I was ten." She keeps scraping her foot against the ground; she's never talked about this with anyone but her grandpa. "I'm an alien, well, one forth alien I guess. My grandmother was an Anadite."

"Wow. So it's literally in your genes to be a hero," Ben said. Then he paused and shrugged. "Well, I guess technically in mine, too, given the whole 'transform into aliens' thing, but I'd be pretty screwed if the watch ever came off."

Her brows knit together and she frowns. "Yeah, but it was kinda lonely growing up too." She was never really able to talk about it with her family aside from Grandpa. It's nice to have someone to talk about it with now, and the guy doesn't seem like too much of a crazy fanboy. "What's your name anyway?"

"I was afraid you were gonna ask that."

He sighed and braced himself. Really, with all the cool names he'd given his aliens, he'd totally blanked out on his own superhero name. Now he was stuck with it.

"Ben 10."

"Ben 10?" Really? Again her brow raises behind her mask. "Is your real name Ben?" Because that seems like it would be the logical conclusion with a superhero name that has a normal kid name in it.

"...Kill me now."

Ben leaned over to bury his face in his hands, blushing horribly. Really, would jumping off the building be so bad at this point? Being a complete superhero newbie was bad enough. Being a newbie with a stupid name, well, it was super bad.

She really can't help the fact that she starts laughing. Ben is just, well, awkward. It's actually pretty charming in it's own way. "So I'm guessing you're a new superhero, huh?"

"Yeah. I've only been at this for two months now. Kinda lame, I know."

His talk with Superman had helped somewhat with his feelings that he wasn't much of a superhero, but standing next to pros like Lucky Girl? Definitely felt like a rookie.

She shakes her head. "Everyone has to start somewhere." She remembered what it was like just starting off. Grandpa Max was a life saver then. Not just with the alien stuff, but with everything. "Do you have someone helping you out Ben?" She is totally calling you Ben forever.

"I work with the Teen Titans sometimes which is cool, but for the most part? Just me. I can handle it though. No big deal."

He grinned over at her.

"I mean, you manage okay, right?"

The fact that Ben has no one to back him up, no Grandpa Max to help him become a stronger superhero and figure out his powers worries her. Especially with people like Slade out there.

"Do you have a pen?" She can't let this kid out there alone like this. Sure, Lucky Girl is alone, but she's got karate and years of experience behind her. She has the internet and her brains to keep her out of trouble. Ben seems like the type of person who would take candy from a stranger if they said it was safe; and that worries her. He's a good guy and will probably make a great superhero with the right guidance.

He gestured to himself and said jokingly, "Must've left it in my other suit."

Having no pockets kind of sucked. And it wasn't like he could stealthily wear a utility belt.

Then he paused, turning pink as a thought occurred to him.

"Wait, are you giving me your number?"

This kind of thing never ever happened to Ben Tennyson.

She never though Ben would think that she was romantically interested in him, but the blush confirms it. It's sweet actually. In normal life people don't think of Gwen Tennyson as an approachable girl; Lucky Girl on the other hand wasn't the type to go asking guys out. There was a whole world of other more important things then boys out there. Still, Gwen thought it would be nice to get asked out at least once. Especially since her only romantic encounter was a boy that barely paid attention to her because he was her cousin's best friend.

"It's, it's not like that." She amends, trying not to stutter over the words. "Maybe we should try this again ..." She presses her lips together as she debates if she should reveal who she really is to this kid. If she's wrong about him it could put her family in danger, and knowing her cousin Ben he'd probably be an easy catch because the guy has a 'cool suit'.

Ben cringed at that and looked away, embarrassed as he realized he'd misread what she'd said. "Right. Sorry. That was really stupid."

As he tried to come up with something to say that wouldn't involve shoving his foot farther down his throat, the watch's face suddenly started flashing yellow, and it started screeching.

"I'm sorry I ever said you had bad timing," he muttered under his breath to the watch as he lifted it up.

Gwen's eyes go wide behind her mask and she leans over to look at the watch. It sure is loud for a superhero accoutrement. Of course maybe it wasn't meant for superhero work, maybe it was meant for something else. "Why's it doing that?"

"Not sure. I mean, it almost never goes yellow," Be said, fiddling with the dial in hopes of getting the device to shut up.

A beam of yellow light shot out and swept over Lucky Girl, the watch humming away before it finally stopped its scan and turned green again. The face flashed as Ben's own voice came from hidden speakers: "DNA sample acquired."

"...Oh, right. That's what it does." Ben put a palm to his forehead. "Really, watch? First a dog, and now Lucky Girl. What's next?"

Part of Gwen wanted to strangle Ben. He actually forgot that the watch scanned people's DNA? "You really need to figure out that thing." It could be an amazing asset or it could be a great liability.
