Somebody did! And thus Ruby Rose is on the scene. She's, like Alvin, completely normal, uninvolved in the antics of supers
no matter how much she wants to be involved. The difference is, her gun is warded against EMP bursts.BZOW!! That's the sound of a beam sniper rifle taking out the robots nearest to Alvin. Ruby comes out from around a corner, taking out two more before her gun shifts, quickly turning into a scythe as she approached Alvin. ] Hey there! You okay?

He prided himself on knowing about most of the supers in the city, or at least having basic information about them. This girl? Completely blindsided him. It was really a personal insult. But she's saving his life right now, so he's not going to let that bother him. ]
Yeah. Thanks to you, anyway. Nice... gun-scythe you have there. Who made it for you? I might need to fire the guy who makes my gadgets. [ Speaking of, let's get that gun working. ]

[ She stops for a moment to quickly slice apart the two robots that were approaching before turning back to Alvin. ]
Oh! Oh! Who made yours? [ And now she's all up in Alvin's personal space, sparkles in her eyes as she looks over his weapon.
She loves weapons, okay? Weapons and supers. Those are the things Ruby Rose loves. ]

And wow that sure was a teenager in his personal space. ]
Don't even worry about it. He's not someone a kid your age you should be getting involved with anyway. [ Speaking of his weapon, time to figure out what's wrong with it since there didn't seem to be any robots around. ]
Besides, if you actually made that weapon of yours I'm pretty sure you're better than he is anyway. [ That or Alvin got scammed. Either or. ]

Still, she doesn't seem deterred by Alvin's words, gettin' in close to examine that weapon. ]
But your weapon is really cool, too! [ She really likes weapons, okay? ] It's a custom job, isn't it? It looks like... does it switch between different types of ammunition? How do you switch between them?
And those bullets you were using...! Those were cool! I kind of wish I used bullets with Crescent Rose now, but you know, if I ever want to be a hero, I figured I should probably make it a little less lethal, so I went with a variable-output beam instead. You know, so I can stun people on a lower setting, then crank it up to blow up 'bots like those guys.
[ Oh god she's rambling abort abort ]

Yeah. It does. It has multiple chambers so that I can switch between some of them at will. There are some normal bullets, but I also have an explosive shell and the ones I was using, which I hand made specifically to deal with robots. They're supposed to generate an electro-magnetic pulse on impact and fry the robots systems.
[ Of course, there were some downsides to a system like that. For starters, he could only fit one of the explosive shells in the gun at the time. And, you know, this entire issue that he's having now. ]
I would've gone with a laser thing myself, but I'd rather not have to worry about the shielding to keep any EMPs from disabling it failing on me. Not that it seems to have helped.
