Ben walked up to the gate in his usual jacket, sneakers, jeans, and T-shirt. In his pocket was as much of his allowance that he could save up. (Boy, had he struggled to save since the newest set of Sumo Slammers action figures came out.) But since he couldn't sew, he had to hire someone, and anyone who knew superheroes knew Edna was the superhero costume designer.

Thinking of the woeful forty bucks he had in his pocket (thanks to a recent bulk purchase of bandages, a first aid manual, and other medical goodies), he groaned. "She's just gonna laugh. Or I'm gonna be running errands forever to pay it off."

Still, he needed something to disguise his identity in case his luck ran out and he transformed back in front of people.

He pressed the intercom button. "Um...hello? Is anybody there?"

The face of a bored-looking security guard appears on the monitor at the gate. "Do you have an appointment?"

"No, I don't," Ben said honestly. "But I need to talk to Miss Mode! It's about a...suit."

Wow. He'd hoped he'd at least be able to talk to her before getting kicked out.

"Everybody says she's the best."

Maybe if you look pathetic enough someone will take pity on you?

"Beat it, kid! No appointment, no admittance!"

The monitor flicks off.

Or he could try busting in. XD But that'll probably just make her mad, huh?

"Come on, please!" He pressed his hands up against either side of the monitor, hoping to get the guy back on the line. "I just need to talk to her for a few minutes! I don't know what else I'm supposed to do at this point!

"Just give me five minutes! I don't even have to come inside! She can tell me to get lost via monitor!"

Just then, a long black limo pulls up the driveway. The driver rolls down his window to tell Ben off, but he is cut off by a fast-talking woman from within the vehicle.

"SHUT UP! STOP THE CAR! That boy, I must speak with him."

The door to the limo pops open. The fast-talking voice from within the limo calls out, "well, darling? I'm a terribly busy woman, I have no time to waste on kids like you, so get in now before I change my mind!"

He straightened up at the woman herself barking orders, giving her a hasty salute because, wow, that is one commanding presence. "Yes, ma'am!"

He climbed in, nearly catching himself in the door as he does so. He gave a sigh of relief.

"Thank you, Miss Mode."

The diminutive woman makes a talking motion with her hand. "Yesyesyesyes, you are very thankful, naturally. NOW, that, on your wrist, what is it?"

"It's a watch that turns me into ten different aliens," Ben explained. She handled supers all the time, so she'd probably heard of such strange devices. Not to mention known all their secret identities. "I found it in a space pod about a month ago."
