Ah - Giroro-dono, working hard today?

[Was that Giroro, or one of his rockets that just shot up into the sky?]

[...Well, it just landed again, huffing and puffing and covered in dirt.] D-don't come up behind me so suddenly!

[Off behind them is a growing pile of what appears to be sweet potatoes, freshly dug up.]

Ah-! S-sorry... I thought I was walking heavier today.

[He bows his head sheepishly, before the pile draws his eye]

Are those Sweet Potatoes that you're growing?

Those are-- it's essential for an invader to have ample food supplies saved up. And to know about the vegetation in the enemy territory. [He mutters, picking himself up and dusting off with a dry sniff.] It's not some hobbyist play!

[He just tilts his head - it's hard to tell, but he might be smiling under the mask]

That so, Giroro-kun? Having a steady supply is good. And gardening is good for the soul.

These would be good for roasting, don't you think?

[Scoffing, he moves on to the next row, grabbing onto a root and giving a great YANK to pull it out.] I don't have so much free time as you do to fart around, enjoying Pekoponjin nature- I'm still an invader!

[Unlike some traitors]

[He tosses the potato into the pile and moves on to the next one.] You better enjoy it while you can.

[A quiet, sad sigh escaped at the remark. It was too much to ask for Giroro-kun to be so forgiving so soon]

I -

[No, let's not debate on the ethics of invasion - he doesn't want to ruin Giroro's crops]

I suppose I will.

[He noticed a bad potato and fishes it out of the pile]

Humph.

[Giroro continues in his potato-harvesting, yanking them up from the ground one by one, and tossing them without looking into the pile. Well, he's being a little bit careless about it, so it's no wonder that there'd be a bad one or two in the bunch...]

[That bad potato looks awfully odd, though... Huh? Is that a blinking light on the end of it?]

[...Why is it starting to blink so fast?] [--beep beep beepbeebeebeebeep--]

WATCH OUT!!

Eh?!

[His eyes widen as he realized the beeping is coming from the potato and for a moment freezes before training kicks in and he tries to fling it away]

[...Only for it to land in Giroro's hands! He starts juggling it, panicked, and lobs it back towards Dororo!]

C-crap! I planted one of my 'space potato shooter grenade' seeds instead! It's full of potato pellet seeds that'll scatter at high velocity on detonation!

Giroro-kun! Why do you have such a thing?!

[He ends up juggling for a few seconds before tossing it up high in the air again]

It's lazy and inefficient!

Inefficient my foot! I don't wanna hear such a thing from a guy who's given up on his mission!

[Crap, it landed in his arms again! he throws it back up again, and the beeping is nearly a constant shrill by now! It'll blow any moment!] I guess there's no other way...!

[He pulls out a rocket launcher, aiming for the potato grenade flung high into the air.] All units, take cover...!

Guh-!

[The order snaps him out of any possible response to the insult]

...

[Dororo waits for the exact millisecond after Giroro fires to grab him and throwing the both of them into a nearby bush for cover - covering his ears to try to block out the worst of the impending explosion]

BOOM!

Gyaaaa! [Giroro is nabbed and lobbed into the bushes with Dororo, rolling and tucking in an attempt to protect himself from the shrapnel of potato seeds (and indeed, splatters of sweet potato) that rained over the area. After a good few moments of quiet after the explosion, dust settling, he slowly unfurls and carefully peeks his head out from the bush, only to see...]

M-my potato crop...! [He cries out, stumbling distressedly towards the now obliterated, goopy mess of sweet potatoes where his proud harvest once sat.]

[Dororo slowly stood up, and gasped as he sees the damage, all that hard work was wiped out in seconds]

Giroro-kun... I'm so sorry.

sniff...

[Giroro falls to his knees before the mess, scooping up a mess of sweet potato in one hand and heaving a heavy sigh.]

...At least I hadn't finished the whole field yet.... [He had to be strong! An invader can't be set back by something so trivial as a loss of one food source. Pekopon was rich in food sources, surely he could easily find another... Without turning to Pekoponjin help.]

That is fortunate.

[He kneels down, retrieving the odd potato or two that managed to survive the explosion, but there's not a lot of those]

Let's see... I suppose one could use the mush as a fertilizer for the next batch of crops.

Yeah, I guess so. [Giroro agreed with only minimal sulk, surveying the rest of the untilled field for stray pellets, and approaching an unharmed and unharvested potato, pulling it up and dusting the dirt off of it in admiration.] It would have been far worse if the crop was above-ground. These Pekopon sweet potatoes are a soldier-worthy crop- tough, and enduring. Nutritious. And easy to cook in a temporary camp.

Well. After we take over Pekopon, I'll have to take some back to Keron.

[There's another low sigh at the invasion comments, and he sounds almost exasperated]

Is that all you think about...?

[He slowly stands, wiping his hands of the mush before crossing them]

But I am sure Keron would enjoy the taste - the Pekoponjins seem to enjoy the crop considering how many ways they have for preparing it.

I'm an invader! A proper soldier should be thinking only of his mission until completion- of course it's all I think about! [He proudly growls, eyes steeled in determination.]

[Well, Dororo, you know how it's always been his childhood dream... Can you expect anything different?]

Preparing it...? [...Well, you've got him interested in that, at least.]

[Honestly, Dororo should've known better]

Ah yes, say what you will about them Giroro-kun, but Pekoponjins are very clever in how they prepare food. As I'm aware of, they use Sweet potatoes for dumplings, soup, fries, pastries, pies, and candied. They even use the greens for some dishes.

[...Now he made himself hungry]

[...From the angry growl that just arose from Giroro's stomach, seems you made him hungry, too.] They're fine enough on their own roasted, but... Pies, huh?

[He nods in confirmation, then gave a nervous chuckle at the sound of Giroro's stomach growling]

It seems to be something unique to this country.

Interesting. So even in such small areas, they differ... What else do you know about Pekopon's differing "countries"?

Well - aside from differing languages and forms of culture, there's vast cultural differences between even neighboring countries. It seems Pekoponjins never evolved as a unified species.
