[Rarely is the Doctor more commonly known as Black Jack seen in the Omegabase, since technically him being unlicensed would class him as not quite on the up and up. And there is also the fact he dresses, and looks, more like a villain. That probably doesn't help much or at all.

But that doesn't matter, because he can be found outside the medical facilities... Sitting in a chair, still in scrubs, passed out and snoring. Which means he most likely just finished patching up some hot headed hero-type and did it well, since he's snoring pretty loudly.]

[Wild card it up, perhaps you've called up Black Jack to do some kind of shady medical work for you? Or maybe some young upstart hero has spotted him on the street, dressed all in black with a cape, scarred up face and half white hair certainly doesn't make him look like a normal citizen, and thinks "here is a villain I can take out"?

Whatever strikes the mood, let's go.]

[how did your old business associate know you were in Venture, Black Jack? Oh, that's not important. In any case, Ivo Robotnik has invited you to join him at the restaurant Maria's, and he doesn't take no for an answer]

Doctor! It's been too long! You simply must try the pasta here, it's to die for...!

[It's probably because he doesn't really make it a habit to hide himself, unlike some others. And not like he had anything else to do at the moment.

Also possible free meal. Black Jack may have money, but he knows to not turn down a free lunch. Or dinner.]

Not long enough.

[Somehow he even manages to look out of place in a fancy place, somehow.]

Oh, don't be like that, Mr. Jack. We're both old friends, aren't we?

[and Ivo says that completely unironically, and yet somehow, his expression doesn't lack self-awareness]

It was business, nothing more.

[Black Jack's tone is completely disinterested, but he is well aware of Ivo's body language.]

So please get to the point, Ivo. What do you want now?

It's quite simple, really. I know I'm already the picture of health...

[as he says that, the waiter sets down a rather rich-looking omelet, stuffed with cheese, bacon, all manner of other things, and likely large amounts of cholesterol in front of Ivo]

... But I've a responsibility to my company, you see. [he starts digging in immediately, managing to hold on to his table manners despite appearances] And thus, I need the best doctor I know to ensure I'm around and ticking for as long as absolutely possible...!

[with a hearty laugh, he reaches forward to clap Black Jack on the back]

See where I'm going with this?!

[Black Jack is quiet, even as the meal is brought out. His own choice is actually the most simple thing on the menu, and he's drinking water.

Pardon the slight snort he makes at Ivo's statement of being in perfect health.

And he was taking a drink of water when Ivo slaps him on the back, it's only through luck (possibly) that he doesn't end up spilling it. Or choking on it.]

Then why are you asking me?

[Well, now he's being a huge shit. He knows what the older man is getting at.]

[Robotnik sits there, looking confused... before bursting out into laughter]

Ha ha, very funny! But you shouldn't sell yourself short, you know!

Hm.

[Yes well, this is something. Black Jack already knows his answer, it's the same answer he has given quite a few people who have asked him for the same thing.]

Well, I do know what you're getting at, Ivo. So please, just speak plainly.

[ivegotthemasterplan]

[Eggman takes a large bite of the omelet before setting his fork back down]

Of course, of course. How about it, Black Jack? Why not come to work for me as my private physician? I know you could use the money.

[Black Jack just remains quiet at the offer, calmly eating his own meal for a few moments. It may just seem like he's ignoring Robotnik but he's not.

At least not on purpose.]

... No.

[Robotnik sits there like a deer in headlights for several moments. No? He'd said no? That couldn't be right...]

No... what the heck do you mean no?!

[he stands up, slamming his hands against the table]

Do you have any idea what you're saying?! No one tells me no, Black Jack!

[Oh hey, if he hadn't been picking up his drink that table slam may have just knocked it over.]

And yet here I am. Saying no.

[Calmly sips his water before continuing.]

You're asking this of an unlicensed doctor, Ivo, what kind of answer did you expect?

[ivegotthemasterplan]

Do you think I care?! Getting you the accreditation is just a matter of greasing a few palms!

[yes, he did just say that out loud. and yet the people eating here don't react whatsoever]

What's wrong with you?! Taking the so-called high ground again?!

[andhookers]

Nothing is wrong with me.

[And now he's standing up, not letting his gaze leave Robotnik's face.]

That and I can do much more, for much better pay, without my license. Now if you'll excuse me.

[Oh look, he's going to leave.]

[ivegotthemasterplan]

[Ivo growled as he watched the doctor leave]

You... you...! I won't let you leave! Not before I can have you thrown out!

[and that's when two robotic bouncers seize Black Jack by the arms, physically foist him up by them... and promptly throw him out into the alley outside]

[Oh well.

This is a first. Not that Black Jack makes a fuss at being grabbed, but he does have a "Really? REALLY?" expression on his face, at least until he's thrown out.

And he's going to sort of stay slumped against the wall he was tossed out at for a moment before sighing, dusting himself off, and leaving.]

[ That hot-headed hero happened to be Mako this time around; having lost her focus and chased the RABIT, she nearly went belly-up on the field. Luckily, she was partnered well this time.

After a dozen stitches and a long nap, she wants to thank him, but he's asleep. Tea wouldn't work. Too bad she's already brought it all the way down here. Setting the tray on a nearby worktable as silently as possible, she sneaks silently around the corner to see if anyone else is still here.

Nope.

Well, then she wouldn't get in too much trouble if she just creeped on into the clinical exam room, and snagged a blanket.

It wasn't a very warm blanket, more for shock victims, but it would do for now. She didn't feel justified with cold tea and just a blanket, so coming back down to properly thank him later would be in order. This probably seemed superfluous to anyone else, but kaeshi is srs bsns.

All but tiptoeing back to place the blanket on him, she's satisfied for now and motions to pick the tray of tea back up. It rattles a bit---and she silently curses the otherwise quiet, hoping she doesn't wake him up. ]

[andhookers]

[He didn't wake up at all with everything Mako did, in fact when the tray rattles the only response from Black Jack seems to just be a snort. Which cuts the snoring short and for a moment it seems like maybe he woke up?

But nope, he still appears to be asleep. But appearances can be deceiving, and not even opening his eyes, he speaks.]

You shouldn't be up and about, you'll just make your injuries worse, Miss.

[akaikutsu]

[ Okay, if it didn't rattle before, now it did. The cups sort of slosh around too. Mako was good and startled. Turning and continuing back to the mess seemed---positively rude. So she stops, facing the music. ]

I feel much better, now.

[ Sixteen or so stitches up the back, she wasn't actually fine, it was the medication. But it really didn't stop her from visiting. They had an elevator, right? ]

I was only returning the favor, a....though it's probably nothing.

[ She nods, avoiding eye contact, should there be any. ]

I apologize. For waking you up. You're exhausted.

[andhookers]

[Don't mind him, he just frowns at her mentioning she's feeling better, as he finally opens his eyes and looks at her.

He so notices the avoidance of eye contact, and he smiles at the mention of being exhausted.]

I've worked longer then that.

[As he spoke he got up, pulling off the scrubs. As he wore his regular clothes underneath them, so not like he was getting all naked up here, and placing them neatly on the now vacant chair.]

And there is no need to return the favour, but I certainly won't turn down the tea.

[And here, he is going to move to help Mako with the tray. Even if she makes a fuss about it he's still doing it.]

[ She nods, the tea tray leaving her hands now, she's not sure what to say. She half smiles, gratuitous that her gift was being accepted. Phew, that's a load off of her shoulders. ]

Of course.

I just---Thank you.

[ She doesn't move to help herself; never her true intention. Again she nods politely. ]

Most don't remember that behind every hero here is someone behind them, helping them. I owe a great debt to those people, that now includes you. I do mean it. Thank you.

[ Mako it was just stitches---unless she's feeling personally responsible for chasing the RABIT. (spoilers; she is.) ]

I'll be more careful next time.

[He's just going to put the tray on that nearby worktable while she continues to thank him.

And not minding the tea that spilled earlier he's going to pick up one of the cups and have a sip.]

Well, hopefully being careful means there won't be a next time.
